Biscuits - With Cinnamon and Mixed Spice.

My kids have turned into really fussy eaters, if it has some sort of spice or a odd texture they will not eat it, it's quite frustrating.
This recipe has cinnamon and mixed spice in it, and I have been making the every now and then for the last year and all the kids love them! I think a nice dolloping of icing on top helps.

I used star and heart shape cutters but they look much more fancy if you just use a plain circle cutter, and they are much easier to ice as well.
You could also joint two biscuits together with Jam and make Belgium biscuits, but I chose not to, I think with small children simple is better.
I made two batches to take to Emily's daycare for afternoon tea on her last day - as of next Monday, she's a school girl!

125g butter
½ cup White Sugar
1 Tbsp Golden Syrup
1 egg
2 cups plain flour
2 tsp cocoa powder
1 tsp each: cinnamon, mixed spice
1 tsp baking powder

1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease or line two baking trays with baking paper.
2. Beat butter and sugar until pale, mix in the golden syrup followed by the egg. Sift dry ingredients and combine with the butter mix to form a dough.
3. Roll out dough on a floured surface to roughly 3mm thick. Using a biscuit cutter or small plastic tumbler press out biscuit shapes and place on baking trays. Press remaining dough together and roll out again, pressing out shapes until mixture is used up. Bake for 15 minutes, cool on a wire rack.
